Easter
in England
As in
Hungary, Easter is one of the greatest Christian holidays in England.
Easter is
an important festival in the UK. In a
different tradition named egg-rolling, people go up a hill, and roll
down the decorated eggs. In Lancashire,
the tradition attracts more than 40. 000 people.
Another tradition
is egg hunting. Parents tell their children, that the easter bunny hid
some eggs. The kids are usually called over by the kids next door and they can
start the big one Easter egg hunt!
On Shrove
Tuesday, pancake competitions are held at several venues in England.
The Hot
Cross Bun ceremony is close to Good Friday, when a kind of spicy Easter
buns are served. These are small, slightly sweet, yeast buns with raisins,
currants and they are sometimes made with chopped candied fruit. Before bakeing,
draw a cross on the buns, then when it is serves, the cross is filled with
lemon-flavored icing.
Perhaps the
biggest attraction at the Easter celebration is the Morris dance. This
it has been a century-old tradition in England, dating back to the Middle Ages.
The Morris dance always performed by professional men's dance groups who dress
in fancy costumes and spring dances are performed for the purpose of
frightening the spirit of the evil winter.
